BIG BANG LAB
THE BIG BANG THEORY NOTES:
THE RED SHIFT:
- Tools that are used for research include telescopes, and spectroscopes.
- According to some scientists, all galaxies one huge mass of matter.
- Also said is the fact that this densely packed mass exploded into a "big bang".
- The mass spread out through space, and then formed into groups, called galaxies.
- There are many different theories and evidences of the Big Bang Theory.
THE RED SHIFT:
- The universe is still expanding.
- The galaxies are moving farther apart from each other.
- Using light waves, scientists discovered that all of these galaxies are moving farther away from each other.
- If the galaxy shows red light, it means that it is moving farther away. If it shows blue light, it means that it is coming closer.
- The greater the shift, the farther the object from Earth.
- All galaxies beyond the Local Group indicate a red shift in their light, proving that they are moving away from Earth,
- In all, it is believed that the entire universe is expanding.
CONCLUSION:
1. The other galaxies are moving farther and farther away from the Milky Way Galaxy due to the fact that our universe is expanding.
2. Scientists use the Red Shift and spectroscopes to observe the colors being reflected off of other galaxies. If the color is red, the galaxy is moving away. If the color is blue, the galaxy is coming closer together.
3. This is a good model of the universe, because it demonstrates how the universe is spreading.
