METEOROLOGY WARM UPS
10/1/12
I would be studying the atmosphere, the weather conditions, and their impacts on us.

The sun heats the Earth's atmosphere by using radiation.
If a light bulb emits heat into the atmosphere it is a form of radiation energy transfer.
The air rising above a fire is an example of convection.

WInd is caused by the radiation waves from the Sun. The air flows from high pressure to low pressure. The uneven heating will cause wind. ~

Salinity causes the water to have more density, and that would cause an effect on ocean currents.

Prevailing winds: Global winds that are predictable for the different latitudes on Earth. The direction of these winds would matter for sailing, flying a balloon, and building windmills. They are constantly occurring. - Trade, Easterlies, Westerlies, and Jet Streams.
Local Winds: Winds that change with the season, and also with the time of day. They are affected by land structures and bodies of water. Also, they are the direct result of differential heating.

What instruments do meteorologists use? They use thermometers, barometers, and satellites. Barometers are tools using to measure wind flow. A hydrometer is also used. It measure moisture.

Trade winds would travel to the southwest in the Northern Hemisphere. That is because of the Coriolis Effect, and also the earth's rotation, which makes them go that way. They travel northeast in the southern hemisphere.

In a high pressure system, you would expect to see clear weather. There isn't much there to see wind. There would be cold temperatures, since it's more dense.
In a low pressure system, you would see wind and rain. With the clouds, it also involves the storms.

When air of different pressures mix, a wind current is formed.
From the symbol, there is a 100% cloud cover, with wind coming from the northeast and blowing southwest with 25 knots. The temperature is 76 degrees.

- The air pressure inside the balloon increases when you blow it up.
- Wind is created when you release the balloon, which makes it go up higher.
10/18/2012
- A low pressure system was created inside the can.
- There was a high pressure system outside the can.
10/24/2012
- The air in the low pressure area is less denser, which makes it collect the water vapor, making it form clouds.
- A high pressure system is coming through. The weather should be pretty clear.
10/25/2012
A body of air with a uniform density, humidity, and pressure.
10/29/2012
- The weather in Dallas is probably clear since it is in a high pressure system..
- The weather would be cool, and there is a cold front going through, so there would be rain/thunderstorms.

1. The north texas and florida areas of the country are experiencing low pressure.
2. Stationary fronts and cold fronts are shown on the map.
3. There is a stationary front near denver, colorado. It is staying in one place.
4. There is cold front near dallas, texas. It is moving south.

There is a high-pressure system in the western side, while there is a low-pressure system in the east. There are many cold fronts shown, with some warm fronts as well. Also, there is light rain in the north. There is also an occluded front, which can cause severe storms, possible snow storms.
11/01/2012
There is a warm front going through Clifden, that's coming from the equator. The gulf stream makes it be green and warm.
Hurricanes are in the low pressure area.

Oceans hold different temperature waters that can cause fronts and storms.
We have clear skies in a high pressure system, because the particles are packed so close together.

You would see clouds and rain when there is a warm air mass. It will be humid too. For the cold front, there will be thunderstorms, and the temperature will go down.
